Ministerial contemplation.

This is a story my old workmate Bill told me a long time ago.
In his youth in the 1930's he contemplated joining the church as a minister, but couldn't decide which church to join. In the town where he was living in the Mid-west of WA there were two churches over the road from each other. On one side, the Catholic church, a big flash brick building with an imposing steeple. Opposite, the Anglican church, a rough looking corrugated iron shed. One day a cockeyed-bob hit town, uprooted the Anglican church and slammed it fair through the roof of the Catholic church completely wrecking them both. Bill contemplated the carnage and decided being a minister wasn't for him, as he told me " I couldn't work for a bloke that treated his gear like that".

Thanks for this post - I've never heard of a "cockeyed-Bob" before, so I've now learned something. It seems to be a North-West term.

I think "cockeyed bob" tended to be used by the older generation perhaps but Bill ,who was probably born about 1915, also used willy-willy in a similar context to the quote from the third contributor to the Macquarie definition. "we used the term "cockeyed bob" to describe a particularly severe willy-willy, the type now referred to as "mini-tornadoes". It was never applied to cyclones,"

Rich, maybe God looked down and thought "Bill will be better employed in the quarrying and haulage industry so I better do something to change his mind".

I like "cockeyed bob", in todays society willy will can mean several things...............

So can cockeyed bob. I remember a few years a go a bloke named Bob had his eyelid torn off in an industrial accident and the plastic surgeon replaced it with a piece of his foreskin. Some people knew him as cockeyed Bob others called him Robert Fore-sight.
