Waterproofing pool table

Hey Guys

I have a large covered deck out the back and i'm looking to purchase a combined pool/dining table for it. This is what i'm currently looking at Fusion Tables (TM).

As you can see it's mostly made from metal, however the edging and table top are made of wood and i'm concerned it may warp or damage (note the table base is slate not wood)

It would be potentially getting wet either by fog that comes rolling in from time to time, or from some wayward rain splashes that have been known to make their way into this area when it's really coming down. This can be quite saturating however.

So my questions are:
1. As it's already been finished, will this be a concern?
2. I was considering using Tung oil to refinish it, should I?
3. If I do refinish it with Tung oil, should I just sand it back and apply and will the oil penetrate if it's already been finished previously?
4. I'm thinking about putting a waterproof pool table cover over it for when it's not in use. Would this do the job without requiring any refinishing?

Have you seen one in the flesh is the trim solid timber or veneered engineered board of some kind, interesting that they claim it is a revolutionary new concept, not the case, this concept has been around at least since the mid seventies

I can't say I paid attention to this but I believe it to be solid timber.

Actually I just found out this is veneered.

From their site:

Tables are made in our own factory in Belgium by transforming powder coated steel, veneered wood, MDF, varnish, lacquer into pleasure.

and from another site

The wood rails and dining top are actually veneered manufactured wood or HDF (High Density Fiberboard)

I'm guessing this now means it will absorb water and warp quite easily...

Yeh that is correct there is not much you can do except cover it up really well when not in use

Thanks for that. I've decided to go a different route now. We have the room for a dedicated pool table so i'm just going to get one of those built out of actual timber and make sure I keep it covered.
