Default What does a * or a + next to a forum name mean?

Here's a snap of the forum members online just a few moments ago.

    Capture.jpg

I've often noticed that just a very few members have + next to their name, and in that snap there is crowie+. (mapleman usually gets a + too)

Today, for the first time, I've seen that there are quite a few people with a * next to their name. It also persists into the members who have read a thread, so they don't have to be online at the time.

What do do the * and + mean?

Hasn’t it got something to do with people in your friends list and perhaps also people you follow.

I have no friends so can’t be sure

I reckon the asterisk * means the user has activated invisible mode, however the tooltip for invisible mode says "Invisible mode allows you to browse the forums without appearing in the 'Currently Active Users' lists.". So I guess that's broken

No. There are people I've never even heard of with a *.

No again. One user has only recently (today, to my knowledge) come out of invisible mode because I can suddenly see that he has read one of my current threads - never could before, even though he had posted in them.

Furthermore, Kuffy is listed with * as having read this thread

Stinky isn't listed as having read the thread either, so he must invisible?

I have invisible mode on. There should be no trace of me ever being anywhere near this thread...well except for my replies

Actually, everybody who has contributed to this thread until post #6 is invisible: A figment of our imagination.

If you go to "who's online" it has a legend down the bottom:

+User is on your contact list
    *User is invisible to others

So it would appear that the invisibility is broken...I mean if you can see them (us) they ain't invisible....

    I can't see that.

Edit: yes I can, I was looking at the front page, not who's online.

I did say in the post about new Member Groups:

"There are a few other privileges associated with these 2 new promotions like number of stored PM's, and a few others that you will have to find for yourselves."

Well looks like you just found one of the extra privileges which I have now deleted again just so stalkers can't see thos who preferto be invisible on the who's on line section etc.

We have had a number of older members change their username in the last few months.

Pretend example: wigglywoodly changed to BillWood, etc.

Did an update of usernames yesterday, don't do it very often... 1st time in the last few years. Took almost 8 hours to do (that's why it's not done regularly)

This could possibly be part of the reason for the noticing of the *.

Gold members will no longer be able to see invisible on line members. As for the + people Stinky was right It is someone who is on your contact list.
