This is a proper thread dredge, has anyone who bought these drills had problems with a very hard to move speed change lever? I had one fixed under warranty and the other is now giving problems and it is out of warranty and it is stiff to the point of it is just about not moveable. Has anyone had one of these apart?

Protool 18V Drill on Special
I purchased two of them at the time. I too have noticed that the speed switch seems harder to move now than when new. Mine are not at a problem stage yet .... perhaps lack of use.

All of my drills are cheapo Ozito 18v lithium ones, I have screwdriver, 2 driills an impact driver. Have been using them for a while and very impressed.
I am not a cheapskate entirely as I use Festool sanders and DF 700 Domino. I tend to drop my drills on the floor on a regular basis so breaking a $60 drill is not devastating.

No, but I would say you have an excellent case for them to fix the second one under wty (expired or not). Merely pointing out that you had to have the other one done should be enough. Furthermore at cost price (as in a wty claim) I very much doubt it is an expensive fix for them. Probably 10 minutes and a $5 part.

This is a problem others have had as well...
Quadrive Drill PDC 18/4 stiff gear selection
I might put it on them and see what happens. The last one took at least a month to fix, lucky I wasn't dependent on it.CHRIS

I have a couple of these ,one I bought as a skin after being happy with the first one.The older one is good to move the switch through the speeds however newer one ( skin ) is a little harder to move .I am going to try some CRC spray on it to see if it will free up the switch .

Yes, my speed change lever is very hard to move. The drill hasn't had a lot of use either.

I rang Festool this morning and was put through to service and explained that this was the second drill it had happened to and others had the issue also. I then asked what experience they had had in the number of returns and the chap at Festool said he couldn't tell me as he was not in the service dept. Maybe their phone system malfunctioned and it connected me to the wrong dept??? I suggest anyone who has the issue call them and see what reaction they get.

I’m a little reluctant to call as they don’t seem to know the answer.
