    Default Butt Chisels

I recently bought a set of these because I thought it was a good idea https://mcjing.com.au/categorybrowse...ategoryid=1569

I must say I am very impressed, the backs flattened very easily and all of them were sharp in under an hour. I have yet to really use them in anger but for the price I don't think I will be too disappointed. They are supposed to be the same chisels with another name as the Woodriver set and they certainly look the same. The handles are a nice size for my small hands so they may get a bit lost in a bigger hand is all I can think may be a problem. Recommended.

I wonder how they compare with my Pfeil set?

I doubt that there is a hard answer to that Pat.

    Chris,
I am sure they will do a good enough job cutting wood so you are one hundred plus dollars up than if you had bought the Pfeil set.

Royflatemate came to my place today to have a chat and brought his identical set of Woodriver chisels with him, we both agreed they are absolutely identical apart from the brand.

I had a feeling I've read somewhere that WoodRiver have all their stuff made by Luban (or at least their planes and chisels) and simply rebadged at the factory.

Just don't ask me for a source, as I haven't one to hand

I don't think we are supposed to link to other forums, but I found this on the UKworkshop forum

"Some googling reveals they are or have been sold under the following brand names:

    • Quangsheng (Workshop Heaven)
    • Qiangsheng (Rutlands)
    • Grant (Tilgear)
    • Woodriver (Woodcraft USA)
    • Juuma (Dieter Schmid)
    • Dictum Eigenmerk (just "Dick" now , I think)
    • Peaktool (Baptist, Holland)

    "

the company's website is Cixi City Qiangsheng Tools Co.,Ltd

Had forgotten all about my set until I saw the post.Definitely the same DNA in both sets.I have used them previously and they perform well.
