Loss of Gloss

Team, can anyone tell me if Spray cans have a shelf life? if so, how long, and would shelf life cause Gloss to lose its Gloss? Yikes......... Test piece sprayed in Gloss 4 coats, sanding in between, Acrylic Clear coat gloss, came out flat as a tack. I think even sub satin.

I am taking it back today to have the can replaced

Most obvious answer: Wrong labelling on the can. Maybe a bit too obvious.

Did you shake the living daylights out of it each time before you used it?

Was the ball rattling around freely in the can when you shook it?

Was it a good brand or cheap stuff from the $2 shop?

Because so many of our U-Beaut products need to be shaken really well I often ask people to show me how they will shake it and more often than not they do a bit of a wibble wobble which is all but useless for our products and they don't need to be as violently shaken as does a spray can.

Cans generally have a shelf life of 1-2 years, I'm not sure how the product is affected though. Exposure to extreme cold or heat might also cause it to go funny; if it's been sitting in your shed all year, I wouldn't be too surprised

If it's particularly cold when you spray, it can go cloudy or not cure properly.

Nope, shook the living daylights out of it to make sure. I took it back and they swapped it out. It was White Knight Acrylic crystal clear, and def not $2.00

I have been waiting and it was definitely warm enough to spray. but as I just mentioned to Neil, I have replaced the can but even with a good sanding the new coat still goes flat, but not as flat so I have sprayed a new piece with no chance and has come up trumps. just a dodgy can I'd say.

I had the same issue not with a spray but normal gloss enamel
Paint had been in the can for more than 5 years,used it for a touch up and it dried flat,I had retinned from a 4 litre to a 1 liter can
I asked a painter mate if that had even happened to him ,his reply paint around me doesn't last that long
Any Ideas please
