Timber Oil Irritation

Okay this is a real silly question but i've never painted something or anything like that before.

I am looking at putting some Feast Waston Traditional Timber Oil on some handrails that have just been put up.

It says that it is an eye, skin and inhalation irritant, is that only while it is a liquid and being applied or will the handrails be an irritant if contacted after application?

I'd have to say it's during the application process, while there's vapours and such. Once it's dry it shouldn't be a problem, otherwise they wouldn't be allowed to sell it.

My advice is while applying, try to have plenty of ventilation and wear the appropriate ppe.

This is true of 99% of finishing products; the solvents are irritants and until they've fully gassed off you should be wary,

For certain solvent & ingredients it's mandated that they have appropriate labelling, whilst for others that I would've expected mandatory warnings there's no such requirement.

For these, I guess it depend on the "safety-awareness" of the company, the market the product is aimed at and if the marketing mgr was hungover while ordering the print run as to whether they put appropriate labelling on their product.

Still, when finishing it's always a good idea to treat the fumes as toxic and have appropriate ventilation, etc. Even for products that are labelled as food-safe.
