Introduction - New member and new to woodworking
Hi All,
I am new to this forum and wood working in general. I have just been gifted an old (1984 I think) Triton MK3 with a saw and router. This has me very excited as I can now do so much more then I could when I was limited to a hand saw and file!
so at the moment I am just trying to get the saw trued up, but this is hard considering the Saw Slide Chassis is bent! need to figure out how to bent it back. I am also missing a protractor so no miter cuts for now
In regards to the router I have never used one before so I need to do a lot of reading before I touch it.
Anyways, I work full time in IT so this is a hobby, I have plenty of free time in the evenings and most weekends that I can use to learn. I plan on making useful items for my home as well as gifts.
Looking forward to learning a lot here and giving back to the community where I can.
Thanks

G'Day & Welcome to the Great Southern Land and to a top forum.
There are quite a few "kiwi" members and the rest of the world.....
You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
Make sure you show off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo, especially WIP [Work In Progress] photos with build notes.
Enjoy the forum.
Enjoy your woodwork.....
Cheers from On Top DownUnder [the really big island across the ditch], crowie
PS - There's a great Triton Woodworking Group in Canberra, ACT that maybe able to help you with your new toys...

Welcome to the forum. There is a lot of helpful advice on here.
Make sure that you get that chassis properly straightened before use. If it is bent or if it is too weak then it might cause kick back. Kick back is when a piece of wood is caught by the blade and flung back in your general direction at about 900km/hr. Literally.
No doubt you'll come up with some number 8 wire Kiwi genius solution but if not, you can still buy a chassis and have it posted to you.
I am still new to routing myself and so I know what you mean. Initially I was worried I would ruin my work piece or the router. I found that I am much more comfortable with the router in a table, while I built up a little experience with it.
You can have years of fun with the tools you have now. Enjoy.
