Adelaidians.... in Holden Hill there is a community workshop run and owned by a young dedicated man.

check out facebook for details.... he has woodwork (limited) facilities, metal work, CNC, lazer cutter and other stuff.

Recently I wanted some special switches for my ute and the aus supplier wanted $39 each.... I bought 6 from HongKong for $3 each and paid $30 for this young fella to do the laser cutting ....top notch..

Makers spaces are excellent. Thinking to establish something similar in Brisbane. Low cost spaces for dudes to fix stuff.

I work out of one. If done well, it seems like a great business model. Rent and maintain the building and make your living, then make furniture as a cherry on top with no significant overhead. Keep high quality machines and maintain them well. My spot has been full with a waiting list the entire time I've been there.

I think that, as cities become more densely populated, this is going to become a much more common thing. If you were to combine it with a school and a storefront...

The guy who set up the Adelaide one is really struggling to keep it going, when talking with him recently his comments were....." all the quality (and it is) equipment is mine, dont get any sponsorship or really want it, cause there is always strings attached... Ive set a time frame and budget (both very generous, I might add) hopefully we can be making headway by then.. social media is his main advertising apart from knobs like me.
