Paulcall Bandsaw
So it started out like this..

I started tinkering and it now looks like this..

Looking for bearings atm.
It's so nice to work on something that is well made. Everything fits with tight tolerances. All the components are solid and built to last.
Besides some surface rust on the main cast body/frame this old saw is in really good condition. I don't think it has had a lot of use over the years.
The bearings were horrible but I think it was crystalised/hardened grease more than wear.
When I disassembled the table and trunion the casting was broken and was being held together by the tilt locking bolt. Luckily, a welder friend dropped in 1/2 an hour later.
He welded the trunion and brought it back within the hour. you gotta have a win sometimes.
Looking forward to getting this one running and operational. I might even put a VFD on this little saw if I can find a small 3 phase motor.
The motor that was on this has a switch on the back of the motor that is operated by a push/pull wire fed through to the front of the table. Those were the droids I was looking for.

I’m enjoying this one a lot, because I have the same model.
Are you going to use the original blade guides or some kind of replacement/upgrade?Cheers
Jeremy

I'll use the originals. They are in good condition, haven't been chewed out at all.
I found bearings last night. Ordered and on the way (after Xmas)Those were the droids I was looking for.

A bit of progress.
First up, the bearings arrived. I managed to get all the old bearings off via brute force. I needed something to install the new bearings.
I couldn't find a bearing installation tool (bit of pipe) the right size. But I did find a larger, threaded bit and a brass blanking cap. I drilled a hole in the cap, slightly larger than shaft diameter, and screwed it onto the piece of pipe.
Worked a treat. And if I need to put some bearings on a different size shaft I can just buy another cap and drill the correct size hole.

I stripped the paint off several bits and repainted.
I did all the tracking components and the wheels and reinstalled the shaft into the top wheel.

I got a nice little surprise when I stripped the paint off the tracking adjustment knobs. Solid, cast brass. An ugly casting but still brass.
I also did the table and the trunion. As I mentioned earlier, the trunion was broken but I got it welded. It needed a little bit of fettling but it tilts silky smooth now.

I also put the new urethane tyres on the wheels.

The main body, the guides and the one piece door/cover are next. Oh and the bearing caps. Nearly forgot the bearing caps.
Unfortunately the bearings I got were not an exact match for the originals (even though the web site said they were) They are about 1.3mm thicker. The ID and OD are spot on so I can still use them. I will just have to make up a couple of spacers to fit under the bearing caps. Those were the droids I was looking for.

She almost looks like a bandsaw again.
Colours are pretty much what I had already as I couldn't find a match, or even close, to the original colour.

Only the door left to do.

I'll put a plug on the motor and give it a run in the next few days. Those were the droids I was looking for.
