How about we do a 'made it through another year' special event Thursday night gtg at the RSL on Thursday Jan 4.

This way :

people lucky enough to have that week off work could attend,

it's far enough away from most other Christmas/new year's gatherings that hopefully people could attend

It slaps one between now and Feb without taking away from the dooen dates

I get to see all your friendly faces as I haven't had the chance for a while.

Obviously other dates are possible, but you gotta start somewhere so thought I'd throw one out there

Sounds good and most New Year's Eve hangovers are gone by then.
I think I'm in.

We're leaving for the beach on the 6th so hopefully I'll be able to come barring late minute problems/emergencies etc.

Well seeing as Gabriel suggested the date change, I guess that means he will be there and I can give him his Sheoak from Dusteater before I get tempted to use it.

As I understand the Law of Timber Ownership, if it stays in my shed too long its mine

The trailer is packed, completely full, and awaiting in the garage for final tiedown. Remaining stuff is for last minute to put on roof rack so it looks that I will be able to come.

Whilst we have our grandson to look after as my wife is in Queensland for her fathers funeral I think I'll be able to be there.
