18th/19th Century English Moulding & Profile Planes x 8
8 x 18th/19th Century English
Moulding & Profile Planes
These eight moulding planes all come from a chap who was a picture framer working in Nolfolk, England c. 1850-90s according to their descendant who brought them over a few decades ago.
I'd hoped to use them but sharpening them is something I'm not confident about just yet. So here they are for the keen collector or antique handtool user.
I have cleaned them up with a gentle wipe-down of 60:40 raw linseed oil and turps. Some minor paint splatters here and there and a serious green spray-paint accident on two of them (see photos). Some cracks and chips too. Overall the soles/profiles are very good, however.
The irons I soaked in white vinegar and lighty scrubbed/rubbed off the rust. Obviously they are quite pitted but in remarkably good condition.
The makers (their names stamped on heels - no stamps on any of the irons) are in no particular order:
Madox
Cannadine
I. Wilkins
W. Squire
Horsman
Buck & Hickman
Moseley & Sons
C. Nurse

I am asking $130 including postage in Australia or $110 pickup in Faulconbridge, 2776 or Ultimo, CBD.
If no interest in them as a lot they'll hit FleaBay individually.
More details and photos to come.
Cheers,
Vaughan

You have 4 passable planes in that collection, the rest are firewood.

That's a matter of opinion, plus it's a job lot. Individually they'd be listed differently obviously.

What does one look for in planes & levels of this era (and apologies for hijacking the thread Dubrosa)?
I came across a few of these at some markets on the weekend, but didn't know what was good and what was junk so didn't want to buy any in case they were junk (and i have no idea what i should have paid for them either)
