Currently I am in McMinnville, Oregon staying at my son's home. We are in the path of totality for Mondays eclipse.

So I drove about 20 hours to get here and will drive about 20 hours to get home.

All for 54 seconds of totality.

At age 75 I won't make it to the next eclipse, 99 years hence.

So maybe I am stupid.

Hi Rich,
Having experienced a total solar eclipse, you will be amazed and it will be worth it. At 63 I may never experience another but my memory of the one I did see will stay with me forever. Enjoy.

I seem to recall a race in Bathurst that was held for 24 hours, so your driving is not so bad.

To me, the biggest thing I noticed was the speed of the shadow, something approaching 3,000 km/h in Melbourne in 1976, what a day that was.

You will not regret it.

54 Seconds!
In my life I have experienced all kinds of natural phenome. Swimming in 12 foot surf, several large earthquakes, hurricanes with two in the "Eye", lava flowing into the ocean, the devastation before and after lava. . .

The 54 seconds of totality was the most awesome experience of all!

If you ever have the opportunity to experience a total eclipse, do it. You will not be disappointed.

My son's wife was overheard saying, "I've seen pictures but the experience was overwhelming."

You could fly out to Australia in April 2023 there's one that will be seeable from the coast of Western Australia

or come to Sydney 22 July 2028

Aside from viewing the shadow with solar glasses, the 90(-) percent in Florida was underwhelming. But you don't need to wait 99 years; the next one in US is in 2024, starts in Texas and proceeds NE. It passes my sister's place in Ohio, and we're planning a tribal reunion.

The 54 seconds of totality was the most awesome experience of all!

Couldn't agree more. I live less than an hour from the path of totality (Nashville), and I spent the previous night there. I almost - like on the day of the eclipse - decided not to stay in Nashville to watch the actual eclipse. That would have been one of the biggest mistakes of my life. I've honestly never experienced anything like it. I was buzzing from the experience.

The total is in, 1999 miles, 40 hours driving, two nights in hotels on the road all for 54 seconds of the most awesome experience.
Cost? Irrelevant! The cost of 'Awesome' is unimportant.

For us cost was zero as it passed right over us. Totality was a surreal experience and indescribable. Glad you made the effort and enjoyed the experience.
