Ballarat Wood Show 2017 23 and 24 September 2017 Wendouree Sports and Event Centre
Event: Ballarat Wood Show 2017
Guild President and Host: Ross Holst
2017 Show, Convener: Kerry Pask
2017 Show, Demonstrator and Trader co-ordinator: George Davis
Theme: For 2017 our theme will be “Fine Woodworking”.
When: Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 September 2017….during the school holidays!
Between 3,500 and 5,000 visitors are expected. Show opens to public at 09.00am on Saturday and 10.00am on the Sunday.
Venue: Wendouree Sports and Events Centre, off South east corner of Norman and Dowling Streets, Wendouree, Ballarat.
Features: 2017 star features are the work of, and demonstrations by, Brendan Stemp and Newton Williams.
Entry: $10 per adult, $8 concession. Children under 16 free.
Activities: Displays, woodworking demonstrations, sales, competitions (charity and schools), cafeteria, hands-on safe woodworking for young kids, and family fun.
Charity Competition: In collaboration with Dragons Abreast, our competition this year revolves around beautiful Australian Blackwood timber with a distinct pinkish grain stripe or spalt. Our members will create artwork from this wood which, after judging and awards, will be donated to Dragons Abreast to raise funds for their mission.
The Guild will host over fifty expert woodworkers and traders (36 registered sites as at early July 2017) from across Victoria, N.S.W., S.A. and QLD. to demonstrate skills in working with wood. Techniques displayed will include turning, scrollsaw, carving and whittling, furniture making, toy making, musical instrument making, pyrography, veneering, box making, and finishing.
There will be a dedicated and supervised “Make and Build” area for kids.
Crafted pieces will be on display – turned bowls, scrollwork items, carvings, fine furniture, decorative items and pens.
Timbers (such as timber slabs, burls and other wood for turning), woodworking tools and equipment will be for sale.
A fabulous $2 Raffle with a traditional and magnificent rocking horse as first prize! Winning tickets will be drawn on the Show Sunday afternoon at 1530hrs.
Tools and equipment suppliers usually have great discounted items for sale. That sequoia slab was a bargain! It was fantastic. I had a flying visit only, bringing my 3 kids back to South Aus. Bought a few bits of Huon, was about all I could fit in my little car
Would have been nice to spend some more time there but had to get on the road. There was a great deal to see, good show!

Doug, your number 12 picture, has me (in blue shirt) contemplating whether or not I would pick up a small blank from Brenden's stand for a small gift for someone. I did eventually purchase a blank...
