    Smile G'Day Everyone

    Hi All,

I've always liked using tools and making things, but lately I find myself day dreaming about tolerances on table saws, what jigs can do for mortal man, and what it must feel like to be genuinely accomplished on a lathe!

Having only ever 'bashed stuff out' driven either by necessity or boredom, I am at the point where I want to create a proper workspace, and make things I can be proud of.

I can't think of a better forum where I can learn how best to achieve those goals, and meet some people with similar interests (even if they are still day dreams ).

    Well met

    Beez (Rohan)

Really appreciate the warm welcome people. I was made redundant last Monday so it's been a tough week. To have such a warm welcome means a lot. Thank you. Rohan

    Welcome to the forum.

Not very good to hear that you have been made redundant. Hopefully you will find a job that you enjoy and that allows you to also make things out wood.

If you do not have a lot of tools then it might be advisable to join a mens shed. When I initially started the first thing that I found was needing to have a flat surface to build on. You can use a couple of sawhorses and a door, I ended up using a couple of crates and 32mm thick MDF.

If you have a certain project in mind and you are stuck ask question on the forum. You might get various answers but this is the nature of wood, more than one way to complete a task.
