I always wanted to go to Australia & this may be as close as I'll get.
Robert
We have laws here that make us make businesses accessible to the handicapped. Also most fitness centers can also be used for rehabilitation by the handicapped or injured. Yes I agree it looks funny. But these are the reasons.Good, Better, Best never let it rest until your good is better & your better best.

So how do you fit the wheel chair onto the escalator. It certainly won't go up the stairs.
Yep! "Only in America."
In Oz we put in ramps for them......

You don't need to be in a wheel chair to be handicapped. It could be anything from an arm muscle problem to a mental........block.

You gotta be jokin'
Ah, Bart, I understand it all now. You have selective handicapping over there. Those in wheel chairs and the like are more handicapped so they aren't catered for or have to go to a special persons fitness centre.
Over here we're not selective. We cater for the whole range of handicaps including stupidity.
Oh well I guess the paraplegics will just have to wait for a laying on of hands at the bottom of the magical (only those who can stand) moving stairs. That way they can rise from their chairs throw off their demons and ride up to glory and the Fitness Centre. Halleluiah brother.
Bart look at the heading for this forum............. It is called:
WOODIES JOKES
Jokes..... do you get it? Hahaha......

Bart.
Don't mind Neil. He is an old bloke, as you can see from his picture and his faculties are failing. It makes him crabby on his bad days. Now me, I am a sprightly 62 year old in full possession of all my bits and pieces.
The thing that made me giggle in that picture was the two, apparently, able bodied guys going up the escalator to do their exercises. I had a mate here who was a gym junkie, but he would drive 4 ks (a bit over 2 miles) to the gym and then spend a half hour on a treadmill. I could never understand why he didn't just walk there and back and save himself the membership fees.
Where is Whidby Island? I will be in Wa for a week or so in May/June, visiting friends in Vancouver and Long Beach and I hope to spend a few days in Seattle.
I will be en route to Alaska, satisfying my wife's great wish to have a look around. We have booked a small boat cruise out of Anchorage to get up close and personal with some glaciers.

Robert, Whidby Island is in the San Jan Islands. I believe you take a ferry across from Renton near Seattle. There's an American Airforce base there, so take your ear plugs if you are planning a visit.
Whilst in Vancouver, a visit to "The Joint" would be well worth your while. This is a new facility, located near Granville Island (a tourist spot you are sure to visit) on 2nd Avenue. It's a shop with the latest woodworking equipment, woodworking artisans and tutors. They have some great woodworking products on display.

Also, Granville Island has a number of shops that would be of interest to woodies.
Finally, don't forget Lee Valley Tools (Marine Drive in Vancouver), the owners of Veritas products which sale here in Australia.

Robert, Whidby Island is in Island county. You would take the Mukliteo ferry out of Everett Washington, or by going north on interstate 5 & take the Deception Pass bridge by going up to exit 230 which is highway 20 & taking a left & follow the signs. There's Whidbey Navel Air station base there, so take your ear plugs if you are planning a visit.
Also see the PM I sent you Robert.
