A quick web search shows that "Oberon [O-buh-ron] is a moon of Uranus" - so I would guess that means lumps in tha navy's collective a&se

1. King of the Fairies, and

my guess is, it is something to do with the stars and constellations, as they where and still are used as a navigation aid!....

Ask the Brits, seeing as it is their class of submarine. The name was used prior to that for HMS Oberon, a surface ship in WWII, then used again for a prototype ship in 1961. The Brits then built the Oberon class submarine, which Australia, Canada, Brazil and Chile also bought into.

They were a kick-ass sub, and HMAS OVENS was the 2nd sub to ever launch a sub-surface Harpoon, which can be simply described as a ship-killer.

Groggy, option #1 was the one I was thinking of, but then, a fairy was probably some ficticious little being that hung around at the bottom of the garden.

Stuart is spot on the money. They where a very impressive unit.

Was planning on being a bugmariner when I first joined. Then I went to Plats and went onboard Oxley. Changed my desision on the spot!

well i cant shed any light on this oberon stuff, but i know that the navy pride themselves on being the senior service. Us army types know why they are the senior service though. the government knew they had to start them first cos it was going to take them a lot longer to get their act together
