Gday from WA

Hi all

Been a member for a while but with a young family, priorities have been elsewhere. In my (close to zero) spare time I enjoy using wood to use in living spaces - a king bed, breakfast bench, climbing wall, deck, slab table, bathroom countertop, bread box, baby toy, outdoor storage box, indoor shelving, adventure treehouse thingy...

My youngest son loves nothing better than to crack out the tools and start making - so maybe I might have a bit more time than before to spend on this interest.

I've stashed a bunch of timber over the last ten years in what appears a desperate hope to use it - white cedar slabs milled at the farm, jarrah etc.

Hi neighbour... I'm just down highway... Mandurah. Understand the sabbatical... me too, I was vacant for about 8 years... so don't feel too bad. One of my disappointments with the woodworking has been not being able to go to the WoodShow here in WA... it coincides with the Avon decent weekend usually. There was a group here that used to meet sometimes. (2 or 3 times a year) Would love to see if thats going again. I'm just a wood working enthusiast & like to share & learn. Cheers kerry

Ok well I don't have much to work with and my shed is 1.5m wide, 3m deep and 4.2 m high. I have only handheld tools as a result of this constraint. So in comparison to some of the hobbyists pics I have viewed, I modestly put these up as functional items designed with extremely limited time, tools and experience. Some I reckon aren't terrible!'

Bookshelves from skinny slabs of white cedar - gillys wax again. Love working with it - very forgiving but still hard. I wish I'd had an ipad when I did the breadbox... I hand sawed a 20mm thickness piece into two 10mm thicknesses with a couple of g clamps and some straight steel to make the lid, door and fascia. And the board I started with was a warped piece - it was an exercise in shaping to achieve a hygienic timber-only seal!
Got kicked in the teeth over it too - was a bread box gift to dad as he likes to make his own, and he took one look at it and said it would be a great onion box and put it in the bottom of his pantry... well at least the cockroaches cant get to his onions!

All up the height is 4.2 and the angle about 35 until it meets the roof. From there it is horizontal for 2m making all up about 6m of steep climbing.

Success! Not quite 2yo. The boards are screwed into steel joists. Next, the fence is screwed to recycled jarrah uprights seated in Galv post supports, which are screwed to the wall.
