Flocking

Hi all,

I have just made some lovely jewelry boxes and now I am looking for spray-on flocking which I believe is supposed to look like underfelt or similar. I want it to coat the inside of the trays to make them look a bit more smick and give the jewelry a bit of cushioning protection. Can anyone help me scource this please.

You can get flocking at Timbecon or carba tech. If your boxes are to be family treasures I would consider looking at leather or high grade felt. The flocking tends to look tardy after a while and tends to be hard to get an even texture on some woods.

I have used the 'instant' flocking and find it unsatisfactory. It is hard to get a constant cover, the stuff is loose forever, it tends to stick to things put in the box and wears away very quickly.

I have gone back to making cardboard or thin mdf plates with fabric glued around it, occasionally with some foam underneath (larger boxes). It's pretty quick to do, looks much better and the fibres stays where they are meant to be.

upholstery velour is worth a look for larger boxes as it is quite durable & flexable.
