Hi,
I think it is time the TAPATALK tappers get a reminder about switching off the add announcement at the bottom of their posts. More and more posts have it, they maybe new members or new smart phone users who have not seen the rule. The Mods used to point them in the right direction.
Sorry to be a misery but it does bug me.

Hugh, it does bug the Mods too but we got sick of having to constantly remind people to switch it off and get abused for our trouble.
Tapatalk is a blight on forums, very annoying advertising and it can't handle photos properly, but if that is what people have to use then we can't stop them. Funny things is when Tapatalk can't handle things properly guess who they complain to - not to Tapatalk but to the forum. We are not the only forum suffering from this, several other forums I frequent have the same issues with Tapatalk.
Personally I wouldn't want to inflict that sort of SPAM on my fellow forumites, but there you go.

On the rare occasion I need to access the forum via my phone, I get a popup inviting me to download Tapatalk. I always refuse and access the forum with Chrome.
My question is - Why does trying to access the forum trigger the popup invitation to Tapatalk? I have always assumed that it was generated by the forum itself as part of registering the mobile device to access. Now I am wondering why this happens and whether the admins are aware of it?
Cheers

It used to be a setting you could tick to switch off in the settings now it seams you have to click it off for each post and it doesn't always like to comply. At least for me.
Ps I just proved my own point I had to reopen this post as an edit to remove it.…..Live a Quiet Life & Work with your Hands

Yes, I used to use Tapatalk on my iPad and I didn't like their message but found (after prompting) it was possible to remove it. Now, only the paid version of Tapatalk will (sort of) let you remove it - though they make it difficult as DSEL74 says. I don't object to paying for an app that I use but I didn't like their terms and conditions (which I read all the way through), or the way Tapatalk like to change the rules as they go. That has meant that I have deleted the app.
However, I now find that I simply ignore their blatant advert and focus on the gist of the post. That is more important after all and the less angst in my life the better. A wise woman once advised me to not fret the small stuff and to "F111 it" - meaning to just let it go overhead and far away.

As an aside to the topic what I find much more annoying and a waste of forum space is people who reply directly under the post quoting what is written directly above and often included is multiple photos.
I think that is a much bigger issue and it was notified by our benevolent leader a practice to be ceased but many refuse to follow and is absolutely rife in certain sub forums.…..Live a Quiet Life & Work with your Hands

Honestly I've been on forums for like 15+ years over probably 100+ forums, this place is the only one where I've noticed people make such a big deal out of quoting posts. I highly doubt people are doing it intentionally to annoy people.

Hi,
I agree with that but the problem is you hit "reply" but if there are a couple of reply while you are typing or even before your reply it gives no indication to which post you are replying to, I think if an indication was given less people would "reply with quote"

No, but in most cases it is plain laziness, the Reply with Quote button is on the right and it is bigger than the Reply button so that gets picked.
As DSEL says it is a very annoying habit, especially when the quoted text is straight above the reply (as I have just done). It gets worse when the amount of text quoted a large, ie more than a screen full, which means you have to scroll past 2 screens full just to get to the reply. Then for good measure there may be a few potos in there as well and you have to scroll even further.
All this then gets stored on the server and the data needs to be paid for and downloaded every time someone reads the thread. Maybe not such a big deal for people with unlimited data and NBN speeds but a real problem for people with dial up or plain ADSL on very limited speeds and limited data.
So, in other words it is not all about oneself, ie "I'm alright Jack", but also showing some consideration for other forum users and the forum owner who has to pay for it all.

While I agree with what you're saying the point about downloading images and the associated cost isn't accurate. An image can be quoted in the thread hundreds of times but so long as the quote references the same image files then it will pull the image from cache. And costs associated with storing text is absolutely minuscule.

The cost may be miniscule but it is still an unnecessary cost borne not by you but by the forum owner.
Scrolling past all these unnecessary quotes is still a major PITA, no matter what the associated costs, especially on smaller screens such as phones.
I come back again to what I said, it is all about showing consideration for other forum users, which may or may not be something you see as important.

I don't think my consideration for other users needed to be called into question did it? I was merely correcting you on something I've seen you post numerous times which had no bearing in fact.

Maybe the "reply with quote" button could be removed so that the poster has to deliberately copy and paste any quotes?

Yes that is a possibility but it wouldn't be a simple matter of copying and pasting the text to be quoted, the user would also have to then highlight that text and hit the "Quote" icon on the toolbar.
