    Default Can't get a roofer

I can't get anyone to even quote on my old federation house in Geelong- rang 3 differnet blokes about 3 times and none of 'em will take the time to measure it! (ok its got about 10 gables)
I want to replace the old gal iron and replace it with zincalume- it can't be that hard to do it myself can it?
Alternatively- anyone know a roofer in or around Geeelong that will bother to show up and give me a quote?

Have you rang the mob that make the roofing?

They would have contracters on their books.

If you have the time you should be doing it yourself. You will get charged alot for labor in both removal and installation of the tin, plus the mark up on all materials. Even if you do just the removal it will save you heaps. Measure up all roof area sizes and get some prices on tin and capping etc, then compare it to any quotes you get (if you can get some).
Hope this helps and good luck on your quotes

I think it has to be done by a registered plumber?

I'm not sure what the laws are but I dont think a roofing plumber is a registered plumber. My mate is a roof tiler but they do the odd tin roof as well. I'm sure these a plumber out there that can clarify this.

What do I get as a prize if I win?
We are talking Victoria of course, as that is where the question came from.

    Default More roofing

    not really a reply but...

Any hints on working out the amount of sheet needed?

If doing it yourself - what about WHS issues like edge protection and the like?

I have a roof that is original 1930's - should I also put foil under the new roof for extra insulation?

    Hints.....?

If it's got about ten gables then it will probably have a few custom flashings and valley gutters too. Don't know what the requirements are in Victoria re licenses, but I'd suggest that on a skills level you don't want to try you hand at reroofing for the very first time on anything other than a plain gable or skillion roof.

    Thumbs up

Thanks for your input everyone. It looks like I can't do it myself on two counts-illegal and inexperience. I'l keep trying with the contractors......at least it's still keeping the rain out

You can also try the Grey Army (http://www.greyarmy.com.au/). I had a similar problem getting some guttering replaced on my Federation weatherboard house. No roofers could be bothered even quoting because the job was too small but the Grey Army's roofer from my area came around at 8:30 am on a public holiday to give me a quote and started the work 3 days later.

    Cheers,
