I am constantly bombarded by institutions wanting to sell me things such as handplanes, saws, chisels and the like: It's just awful. A girl with a well turned ankle might be a welcome change . Are they more expensive than a hand saw?
Actually I am not sure if the advertisements to which we are referring are the Forum sponsors or unsolicited spam. Either way if they permit the continued operation of the Forums I don't plan on getting too precious about it any time soon.
In reality it is not very different to commercials on TV and that allows me to watch the idiot box for free, although I concede that increasingly there is less and less I wish to watch in contrast to the Forums where I have to restrict my time.

Being a woodwork forum shouldn't this thread be titled Adze for Girls?

Fortunately there are people out there who don't think being a mysoginist is funny.

I have to disagree with you Doug. There is no difference. Equality starts at home.
I help out at my kids school with kindy woodwork classes and the girls are just as able as the boys.
If you feel that it is just humour, why don't you repeat it over here and see what response you get?
Next family gathering, repeat the joke for your grand daughter and let us know what her mother thinks.
Or repeat it for her class at school and let us know what her teacher thinks.
While I accept that humour is always targeted at an audience, and I'm sure that the demographic here is predominately old men, we aren't in the Men's Shed here. This a woodwork forum, not an old men's forum and it would be nice that your grand daughter and my daughter could visit this forum and not have to read stuff like that.

I know of several excellent female woodworkers, Hiroller. Quite a lot of them produce work in excess of that which I aspire to. It is just a joke - nothing more and nothing less. I have told that joke to my granddaughter, her mother and her mother's mother (my partner) when they have been caught using a butterknife as a screwdriver or similar. They have no problem with it. They just come back with jokes that you would probably describe as misandry. You might need to look that one up.
Why are there so many people in this world who when given a choice of two ways to take something someone says, always take the one that was not intended?
Do not get me wrong - stuff that is really mysogyny (and misandry) are very wrong and should not be tolerated. But those of us who know the difference between harmless humor and something serious should not have our fun spoilt by those who do not and decide to appoint themselves as some sort of gender bias policeman/woman.
Cheers

Obviously the women in your family are different to those in mine.
I shall remove my newly appointed police hat and quietly exit stage left.

In the original joke if you replace 'girls' with 'Paddy', a 'Polack' or 'van De Merve', it becomes a racist joke. However I'm never quite sure if you replace 'girls' with 'blonde' whether it is racist, misogynistic.... or just a joke?

I have now tried everything, and can still not get girl ads when I'm logged in. Some people get all the luck.

Chris, the ads are personalized to the computer you are on and its browsing history. It tries to find ads for things you have searched for in the past. If you want to get the ads for girls on the forum you need to do a google search for that type of girl a few times.
I do not get the ads at all because I installed an ad blocker. You can search for them and download them for free. If you search for one and do not install it I guess you will keep getting ads for ad blockers
There are plenty of free ad blockers that will work. Now if someone was to write a bull$#!t blocker for forums - that I would pay good money for!
Cheers
