Default Hi from Spike the lurker

    Hi -
I have been a member since 2012 and never had the courage to introduce myself or ask a question, but have lurked often.
I am 58, married, grandfather and work for myself in the electronics and software industry (which I love).
I find that at the end of a day - I get the greatest satisfaction when I have created or built something with my hands and not a computer.
Whilst the computer and my electronics business provides the funds and the travel, my physical work provides the satisfaction.

Over the last 10 years I have - parquetry(ied) over 100sq of flooring (blue or red gum - can't remember which one) pulled down and rebuilt my wooden balcony (11m X 4m),
built my first retaining wall out of Ironwood, built my man shed (6m X 3m) on a sloping backyard on treated pine, poles and cypress flooring (cause I got it cheap), and
turned a two car garage into a granny flat for my son, daughter in law and granddaughter number 2, while they try and save some money to get into the Sydney house market.

I am currently building some more retaining wall (based on the success of the first one), planning the underfloor cellar, new colonial front doors and 8m of balcony colonial doors,
and an expansion to the granny flat (extra bed room).

I have done some reading on the woodwork forums and think this is just a fantastic source of knowledge.

I have two current projects that I am going to ask for help and opinions and will post them in the appropriate threads, the first is a slab balcony table, and another about
building the granny flat bed room extension based on my shed design (treated pine poles and cypress flooring)

Thanks again for the forum and I hope I can provide some help occasionally rather than just taking.

    Regards Spike
