Off again, to Darwin this time
Well the overdue trip to Darwin has commenced. Intend taking 2~4 months on this trip but time will tell how actually long. Decided to head north first to past Cairns (via Emerald and Mackay), cutting across to the the Gulf to Borolloola before heading to Darwin, then back via the inland route collecting as much desert timbers as possible

Sounds like a killer trip. Hopefully you get some dry(ish) cool weather for it.

I'm on my way to Emerald but stopped overnight on the range NW of Gympie. Nice view

Here's a pretty impressive burled eucalypt on top of the range

You are welcome to drop in when you arrive and say G'day. In Palmerston. Send me a PM if you want to catch up. Regards David.

Luke, Neil ends up with more timber than he can carry, in the ute and trailer. His traveling turning rig is better than some people's entire shed, on wheels and a good lathe too.

No probs David. Lived in Darwin for 10 years and worked in Palmerston for 5, so know it well, and plan to catch up with a heap of friends. It's been 16 years since I left though and judging by the photographs I've received it has changed heaps.
Yep. I've cut back on equipment this time, no mill/casting/stabilising gear this time, just my lathe and a single double folding cupboard full of gear. I still have my chainsaws though, including the 5' bar, so will have keen eye out for burls and acacias on return trip through the desert country.
The trailer is very full at the moment with timber but I will be off loading most of it at Emerald/Mackay/Cairns to friends.Neil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new

Now just an hour south-east of Emerald at a free camp on top of yet another range (WikiCamps Australia | Camping app for Australia | Travel | iPhone iPad iPod Android Phone Tablet | Camping, Caravan Parks, Backpacker Hostels, Day Stops, Rest Areas, Information Centres, Points of Interest, POI, Dump Points). Great view (photos looking east) and cool breeze, just have to put up with the truck noise, typical for a site close to and above the road.

Apparently the view is great at sunrise but this little black duck was sound asleepNeil____________________________________________Every day presents an opportunity to learn something new
