Default 0000 steel wool equates to what grit sandpaper

I am having trouble in my final finish. WoP. Several coats and sand in between up to 400 then a light scrub with 0000 steel wool. But then I have fine scratch lines.
Should I drop the steel wool and go higher in paper?
    Comments/advice appreciated.

According to a bit of paper stuck to my shed wall:

    0000 steel wool = 400 grit
    000 steel wool = 280 grit
    00 steel wool = 180 grit
    0 steel wool = 120 grit
    1 steel wool = 100 grit
    2 steel wool = 60 grit
    3 steel wool = 50 grit
    4 steel wool = 36 grit

But be aware that I ignore this... as it's pretty much a case of comparing apples to oranges. They cut differently.
I may be weird, but I'm saving up to become eccentric.

Thanks that is what I suspect. I may leave the steel wool and go up a higher grit sandpaper.
    Thanks for the numbers.

This may help Steelwool Grades and Applications

Steel wool has its benefits over sand paper in some applications. I use a fair bit of 0000 steel wool to denib finishes on wood turnings, something that sand paper is not good for.

Are there different qualities of steel wool too?
I am preparing an order list for the sandpaper man. Time to replenish my supplies.
