Fixing joist hanger
Hi Guys, I know these issues have probably been done to death on this forum but I can't for the life of me find the answers I need from searching the existing posts!
I have a FB45220 hanger which is going to be connected to an LVL bearer which is 2/360x63 - two LVLs which have been fixed together to act as one member.
I was going to affix the hanger with the Pryda nails (which are 35mm long) but I have been reading some parts of the web which say that the fixing (Whether it's a nail or screw) should go through both LVLs - hence it would need to be atleast 75mm long, which would rule out the Pryda nails.
I've asked Pryda about this and they say it shouldn't matter - if the LVLs are joined together and they are, together, a total thickness of ~120, using a 35mm nail to fix the hanger to one side is just as good
Has anyone come across this before?
I could use a bolted connection but the engineer recommends 8mm UA which I can't find anywhere!
Cheer's
