notching LVL bearer onto steel beam
hi everyone, just doing a bit of research into some up coming reno's, i'll be replacing some original floor bearers with larger ones to remove some piers. these currently sit on a load bearing brick wall which is being replaced with a 250mm steel universal beam. as i don't want to lower the finished height of the beam anymore i can't sit the new 300mm LVL's directly on top of the uni beam
i'm just wonder what would be the best way to attach a 300mm LVL bearer onto a steel 250mm uni beam with regards to notching etc...
basically the 3 options i can come up with are:
poo.jpg
notch out the lvl by 120mm and sit directly on the steel
poo2.jpg
fill in the uni beam with a section of wood and bracket the lvl onto that
poo3.jpg
notch out the lvl and attach it to the steel beam with a welded or bolted on gusset
any other ideas?
cheers
