I'm looking for some intelligent ideas on solving an issue to extract exhaust fumes from my garage.

I've got an old vintage car, it lives in my garage but it takes a few minutes shuffling back and forwards to get it in and out of the tight space that is my garage. This causes a lot of exhaust fumes to build up in my garage, it's an unavoidable side effect of the age and simplicity of the engine in my car. My garage is integrated into my house and opens directly onto a laneway at the rear, I leave the roller door open to vent the exhaust but it takes a while to vent it all and I don't like leaving my garage open and unattended. If I don't leave it open long enough the trapped exhaust fumes tend to seep into the house and I get a bollocking not to mention health concerns with the fumes.

My thoughts on solving this is to put in some sort of exhaust vent in the ceiling right above the car. The roof is flat and there is a small cavity between the the roof and plaster ceiling. I figure it needs to be powered and when I flick a switch it does a good job of sucking out all the fumes, however I'm not sure if a regular bathroom extraction fan will be any good. Also, it will need to vent to the outside somehow and not let the elements in. Does anyone have some ideas on how I might be able to solve this and the products I can use?
