crowie, thanks for the great photos
If you include the photos in your post rather than having as attachments, as you currently do, you can the comment on each photo in your post.
If you don't know how to do that:
In Advanced Edit mode you will see a paper clip symbol on the top line of edit buttons
Place your cursor the post where you want the photo to go, click on the paper clip and you will get a dropdown list of the photos you have attached, click on the photo you want and it will be inserted in the post where you have placed the cursor.
You now add text to describe that photo.
Keep doing that for each photo.
That way you have photo and description together, easier for you and the people reading your posts.

Ray's repair of Dave's "Treadle Lathe" foot arm with recycled timber
Ray's repair of Dave's "Treadle Lathe" foot arm with recycled timber as part of the "Firewood Challenge".....
Then Dave had a got and it worked perfectly, even with a less then sharp chisel.....
WELL DONE RAY.....
TOP JOB....
You can see the original configuration/bodge in one of the earlier photos using a piece of steel for an old plow....Also my I add that after this days effort of up & down, bending & kneeing, Ray was quite sore; his body yelled at him saying you're not as young as he thought...................

Looks like Ray was carrying on the same workmanship as Dave's floor job. It came up a treat.
What is that Ray is hammering in in picture 14 and is exposed in pic 15?
Thanks for the WIP Crowie.

I think the joint is a called mortise & tenon and to secure the new timber tenon in the old mortise, Ray cut some long, thin wedges, added glue, then hammered them in place to firmly secure the joint, one on each side between the old & new timbers.....
Ray please correct me if my explanation lacks anything or correctness....

And thus it is called a weged mortice and tenon. Some may go so far as to say a thru wedged mortice and tenon 😉

Thanks Treecycle for the compliment. Yes it is a wedged mortise and tenon. I really enjoyed that little project, definitely something different and worth doing to keep such a treasure in working condition. Im even tempted to make one from scratch.
The best photo is the 3rd sunset one with the reflection off the rail lines, that is probably one of the best composed sunset pics I have seen in a loooooooong time. Well done Peter. The person who never made a mistake never made anything
Cheers
