Hi there
Just came back from visiting the inlaws in NZ and saw that they had a new garage door with an automatic opener. Came home and decided I'd want one too but I wasn't going to buy a new door as I thought the door was basically solid, just old, more than 30 years old. So down to Bunnings I went and bought an automatic door opener. Watched a few videos and all was good.
First up was servicing the old door.
I lubricated the springs with Inox, retensioned the spring so the door was neither going up or down when release at its mid point. I also gave it a good clean. The door was operating much more smoothly than before.
Followed the instruction and put in the opener, needed to move the roller a smidgen sideway to fit in the opener, but door was still within the guides on either side.
The door opener works as expected. The door rolls up smoothly enough, just creaks a little. But when the opener drives the door down, The door doesn't come down quickly enough while the opener unrolls the door causing the door to balloon out initially. After a couple of seconds, the door starts to accelerate downwards and finally catches up with the opener. Tried cleaning the tracks but it didn't solve the problem. The door was initially higher on one side by about 10mm but I've fixed that. It is completely level. I've also riveted the curtain to drum at the opener end. It made a small difference, but it hasn't cured the problem.
Any ideas?
