Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen.
Hi all.
I thought I better join after spending some time looking around the forum for info and ideas.
I'm a Pom (stop booing...!) living on the Central Coast in NSW and I've just brought my first lathe.
I've been a Cabinet Maker for around 20 years and I've been in Australia for nearly nine of those. I've always wanted but never tried turning before. I started woodcarving in my early twenties and have made all sorts of bespoke furniture but none have involved any turning. I've jumped into different parts of the trade over the years from Shopfitting to Kitchens. Bespoke furniture to any household storage. I'm now working on Motor Yachts which is the reason I wanted to move to Australia in the first place.
It's about time I gave it a go so I'm here for some advise and to tap into the wealth of knowledge that all you guys and girls must have collectively.
I've picked up a second hand Teknatool Nova 16/24 which came with a set of chisels, Chucks and attachments so I think I have all I need to get started. I also now love Gumtree!!! It was a bargain.
Thanks in advance...

G'Day & Welcome to a top forum.
There are quite a good few members on the Central Coast with a stack of members in Sydney and surrounds plus the rest of the country.....
You'll find a heap of helpful & knowledgeable blokes & ladies on the forum and for most very willing to assist.
Make sure you show off your handiwork as everyone loves a photo, especially WIP [Work In Progress] photos with build notes.
Enjoy the forum.
Enjoy your woodwork & turning......
Cheers crowie
PS - Keep an eye out for a get together at Katoomba for the Sydney area forum members....great way to met & make friends..

Welcome aboard.
If you're not doing anything Australia Day come to Victoria. I'm having a GTG (get together). There will be a number of lathes running and about 20 or so forum members there.

Welcome to the forum.
We would only boo if you follow a non-Australian sport team and we never boo the opposition just the supporters.

Thanks all, Once I get over this man flu I'm going to try and start a Chess set for my 7 year old.
I've picked up some Teak and I have my eye on some Rock maple for the two sides. I thought I'd give my self a challenge first up. lol.
Thanks again all, I'm going to try and get to a couple of shows this year. I think I saw that there was one in Newy and another in Sydney but I need to check that out.
