New to Band sawn boxes. Instructions please
Hi All,
As my title suggests, I have never made one of these boxes but would like to start. I thought before i go trolling utube and the like in search, i would ask the experienced guys first. Feel free to push me in the right direction please. Cheers

It took me a little while before I made one.
These are the steps that I do to help me remember.
From a block of wood cut the outside shape.
Cut the back.
Cut the inside shape.
The first two parts are glued together.
From the inside shape cut the front and back.
From what is left cut out the draw and discard the inside part.
These three parts are glued together.
Normally the cuts from a bandsaw can leave be a little rough surface and sanding the parts before gluing might be better but if you sand too much the grain might not match. Of course the variety of what you make comes from your imagination

Personally I cut the back off first (as it is easier from the somewhat square blank), then the middle drawers, glue the back on and then cut the outside profile. That said however techniques should be flexible to cater for the different designs.

The Ultimate Bandsawn Box Book (Donna Menke)
Ultimate-Band-Saw-Box-Book_cropped-266x350.jpgI started making a few Bandsawn Boxes about a year ago as a way of using up off-cuts of timber. What I found most useful in helping me get going with making bandsawn boxes was a book by a member of this forum; Donna Menke (donpbk) https://www.woodworkforums.com/showthread.php?t=13357.
Back around 2004 Donna wrote "The Ultimate Bandsawn Box Book". I first found a copy in the Ipswich City Council Library, and made my first box from it. I then decided to buy a copy. Unfortunately, until late 2014 the book had been out of print for a few years, and had sold out at most retailers. I managed to get my copy from Amazon in late 2013.
But I notice from Donna's web site (http://www.woodworks-by-donna.com/) that she now has the book back in print. She is selling them directly for US$ 30.00 plus postage.
I have found the book listed on the web sites for a few Australian book sellers, but at AUD$80.00 plus postage, you're much better off buying directly from the Author, instead of paying the artificially inflated Australian retail price.
Hope that info is useful.

bandsaw box
HI ROB,
I use a 1/4 inch 8tpi it seems to work ok, also when I fit a new blade on the bandsaw with tension I turn it on and hold a rubstone on the back corners , I think it helps to go around the corners with out burning hope this helps john.

Hello Skipseke,
What I call a rubstone is a stone you use to sharpen your wood working chisels, And you can also use a flat file hope this helps john.
