Make it so ppl can still ask questions for free, but if they want to get all serious there is a fee payable for membership.
Or * ammount of posts free, after that it will cost $*

As soon as you charge fees for forum membership you are likely to prevent or maybe even reduce any natural growth of the forum as new people won't be inclined to pay as there are many free forums.

If you are not interested in the newbies then perhaps you lot should form the old-dinosaurs forum so you can consider ingrown toenails and other inane crapola.

I don't mind the idea of donations to support the cost of keeping the site up however charging a fee for membership will be the death of the forum. I wouldn't have joined if there was a fee. Yeah, I know the rest of you are wishing that there was a fee 2 years ago so I wouldn't have joined but now it's too late.

I also am heartily sick of the inane crapola, the trolls, the members suffering from multiple personality disorders or the identity thieves on this board.

It may have started out in fun like the pancakes and the first NotRalph or Prince Charles but IMO it has got out of control. As it is I now only read less then half the posts as they are no longer interesting.

At this stage if a fee was charged for membershiop I would not remain a member.

Wouldn't be reliable Zed. I for one use at least three different computers and Internet connections, depending on the time of day. In any case, there are ways around this issue if you are savvy enough.

    Cheers!

Seconded. Even though I use Ubeaut products, and even have a Foilie (thanks, Neil, it arrived during the week!), I wouldn't mind a small subscription fee for the benefits I get from the advice and wisdom (and humour!) to be found here.

Only been around for a few months, but, as you can see if interested, I pop in pretty often.

    Cheers!

WOW!!!!! talk about a hijacked thread.

BUt im not sorry its gone the way it has. i started the thread to take teh **** out of some of the troll-callers cos im pistorf with them too. why can t we all just be our one identity and leave it at that, have a bit of fun with some frivolous posts while exchanging good advice on our topic of woodworking. the moderators here do a great job and im sure this is a great challenge for them. in one way im glad they havent come in boots and all and in other ways i wish they had. lets all just pull our heads in for a while and let it all settle down

theres no way the forum would remain as it is if fees are charged. firstly, it would discourage new members and its the new members we all like to help. if it wasnt for trhe newbies asking questions the whole thing would die. look at the threads. its the basic (note i didnt say silly) questions that the newbies ask that prompt the more experienced to explain their method of doing things so that the rest of us can debate the best way of doing it, introducing teh advanced skills

I'm with on this. I actually tried to address it partially in the now closed " I wonder....." poll.

I've been crook since the WA Show, been back to work for the first time today. During the approximately 2 weeks I did 3 very short visits and viewed about 2 pages on each occasion, skimming over threads and as soon as the supposedly funny posters ( who mostly weren't funny, rather more irritating ) took over a thread, I just skipped to the next one. Humour is fun, but when we get idiotic repetition thread after thread, totally off topic, I just ignore subsequent posts. I made a comment about a year ago about the unnecessary cluttering of the bulletinboard. I'll be a very happy member if we can return to normality.

If a small fee was necessary it wouldn't bother me, however it will be detrimental to the growth, participation and future of this board. On the flip side, if the behaviour of the last few months is allowed to continue the board
    will definately suffer anyway.

    Please guys let sanity prevail.

    ( End of sermon )

To the best of my knowledge there will be no fees charged for the Board as it now stands and it has never been discussed.

Pauline very rarely reads it and Neil doesn't have much time either, that is why you get stuck with me.

I personally agree that if a fee was charged we would lose some very valuable input from both new members and old ones.

I read nearly all the posts (yeah, I know, I should get a life) and it gets wearying reading all the stuff over and over again. Those that know me, know that I have a pretty good sense of humour but it gets irksome not to mention the amount of time to edit innuendo and smutty comments.

I could I suppose really put the auto censor into full swing but some posts would become unreadable.

As my final take on this.

Thank you very much for all the hours you put into this board, it is appreciated.

    Thanks mate
