Thread: Bloody hypocrites

We can't always control what we are exposed to. It may be on the TV at some venue (e.g. a pub) where we have no control.
For example, there are times when I visit the people next door and I might be exposed to the Bold and the Beautiful. In that case, at least the standard is so poor as to create a few laughs. I would also prefer not to be exposed to hideous bellowing radio adverts and DJs who think they are more important than the music, but that's not always possible. Again using next door as an example, they sometimes have the radio up plenty loud enough to penetrate my shed (I get far more volume than they do in the front of the house), but for me to complain about it would seem somewhat hypocritical, given that I make plenty of shed noise.
Actually, it's not too different to people dropping comments into a thread about how pointless the thread is - they could choose not to read it, or choose not to respond if they think it is such a waste of time.

Switch it all off!
Agree with Dareen.
New York could be nuked and I'd only found out about it from the shouting of the neighbours.
For 2 full months now I've not seen a news article, watched the TV, listened to any radio* or seen ANY news on the internet. All those sites have been deleted from my bookmarks. Cancelled subscriptions to magazines (ALL of them) and eliminated any and ALL forms of paid "entertainment". All of it.
It created an O.C.D. fixation - facebook, internet news, email - aaaannnnnndddddd repeat....
I've created 5 more hours in the day. There are only 4 sites I now visit. Here, a futures monitoring site, a trading site and hangout for commodity/trading nutters. Thats it.
Im telling you, its amazing. Life is sweeter. The grass is greener. You hear the birds and you smell nature. Your senses come alive. It might sound like a nutter, but being a 100% internet dude for 20 years being saturated in marketing, media, advertising, hype and BS made me intensely cynical. Turning off has sharpened my senses and made me see the world.
Hit the Big Off Button and reclaim your lives.
Pure unadulterated reality!
Try it for 4 weeks. Just give it a go. What will you miss?
* ABC classic was on my good list until they started to interject news and other crap into the lineup. I now save 3 cents a day on electricity from having the radio off too!

While sitting around the campfire one night SWMBO happened to mention that she was missing The Block. She was loudly ridiculed by one of the women in our group, who eventually 'fessed up to watching Home And Away and was taping the shows she was missing. She was promptly awarded the "Black Kettle".

I find it interesting that some 'news' items on one of the popular channels relates to how contestants are going in one of their 'real tv' singalong or dancealong or whatever series
and the absolutely brilliant question outside a court 'why did you kill her?' or somesuch ... What?regards

It wasn't too bad Fred, the campsites were chockers Friday and Saturday but we pretty much had the tracks to ourselves. A lot of people went home Sunday as the weather wasn't the best.
