problems logging on
G'dayAbout 6 weeks ago I upgraded my computer and switched to windows 8.1 . Now I have all sorts of problems logging on .It says welcome turnerted thanks for logging on but in most cases I am not properly logged on ie I can not start a new post and cannot open pictures although I think I can reply to others posts .I have tried changing my password and tried reregeristing but it still has not fixed it . Today is the first time for a week or so that I have been able to logon . I thought it might be something to do with the new antivrus software I am using , Kaspersky , but I am having no problems with my internet banking .Anyone got any suggestions ? I am getting very frustrated .Ted

windows 8.1
Hello Ted,
My neighbour, recently retired computer guru (?) said to avoid 8.1. He said if you have problems, it may be better to go back to (say) windows 7 (which I have) and wait in the queue for a free upgrade to Windows 10.
I use Firefox these days as I had real problems with Internet Explorer when this Forum and others made changes to their operating arrangements some time ago. I have not had any problems with windows 7 (Home Premium)
with Firefox. Hope this helps. Drillit.

Stop using Explorer and use Firefox or Chrome and there shouldn't be a problem.
I upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 10 a few days ago. Not the best move I've ever made in my life but it does work with everything, although you lose a lot of the flexibility of windows 7 but I suppose it will get better as I use it more and get used to it. Still won't like it and won't be upgrading my other Windows 7 computers any time soon.
It's a bit like going to Coles supermarket and looking for your favourite caned food only to find it has disappeared and been replaced with a Coles generic brand. An even closer analogy is shopping at Aldi and expecting to find known national brands and searching high and low to find the Vegemite only to discover they don't have it.
Will be rather frustrating for anyone upgrading from anything earlier than Windows 8.
Sorry for the little grumble.
Hope this sorts out the problem for you turnerted.

Thanks for the replies.
I have installed Chrome which seems to have fixed the problem .
I can understand your frustration with 8.1 Neil . I was very happy with my XP .
I keep getting a popup inviting me to install 10 . After your comments ,I wonder if I should click on it or not .

If you're using 8 then 10 will be rather familia and with luck will fix any problems. It does run pretty well and rather fast so I wouldn't hesitate to move from 8 to 10. Bit of a shock to go from XP to 10 and 7 to 10 but something that won't take too much getting used to one would hope.
