3 phase jointer
Hi guys. I have a question that I am hoping someone on here may able to answer for me. I have been offered a 6" jointer (old, Tanner NZ model) for $70, but it is a 3 phase machine. What I would like to know, is how easy/hard would it be to convert this machine to single phase power, as I don't have, and can't afford to install, 3 phase power. My understanding is that it should simply be a case of replacing the old 3 phase motor with a single phase one, but then I have to look at what power and what speed the motor runs at, to allow the jointer to do its job. Any help would be much appreciated?
Cheers
Darren

I think the most important parts of this question are "6 inch jointer" and "$70".
The specs for the motor should be written on a plate fixed to the motor and shouldn't be hard to replicate. We don't know how lucky we are......

Check the RPM of the 3 phase motor, measure the shaft diameter and note the key arrangement so you can swap the pulley over and source a single phase motor. Take a note of the mounting details like hole spacing on the foot and overall size. If you can find one with the same size frame all the better. 2 HP should be ok for a 6" jointer.
That's what i have on mine anyway. I think they come standard with 1 HP.Those were the droids I was looking for.

Thanks guys. The intention was always to get it, providing it wasn't going to be mission impossible to convert to single phase.
