The green shed strikes again

Read an article in a Woodsmith mag (#118) about a Bosch bench drill.
The article finishes with "Available from Bunnings"
I made inquiries to three green sheds in the Perth area and they have never heard of the bench press. The nearest Bosch drill press was a Dremel attachment, Dremel being a part of Bosch.
Ah well that is what you get for living in the boondocks

Bunnings has a special order department which is, in my experience, fairly efficient.
Quite simple really.

As it is on their website, it is a stocked item - just not in every store - so the normal return policy would apply.

You said in your original post that the 3 stores you asked "had never heard of it", surely you could have pointed any of those 3 stores to their own website?

I know it is popular to have a shot at "The Big Green Shed", but communication generally gets results.

It was after pointing out the item on their web site that they suggested the Dremal attachment.
Only looking at the moment, if I went thru special orders I feel commited to buy.

I purchased one of the Ryobi 254mm SCMS and had it for 2 years and 1 month to the day.
You guessed it she stopped partway through a job. Checked all that I could and couldn't see, find the problem. Only had 2 years warranty. Went out to the big shed with my receipts etc and put it on the counter and asked what could be done. Long story short they gave me a new one with two years warranty starting that day. Can't complain.

I have seen this drill in Bunnings (Oakleigh South, Victoria) and it is variable speed with a two speed switch. Label shows it as 200-2500/min. Display on the front has a button to change between rpm and mm. Plaque on left side shows drilling speeds for steel and aluminium in relation to bit size (I think).
It is certainly a different drill to your normal bench drill, the base is the table and the whole motor chuck assembly moves on the pillar.

The more I look the more intriguing it becomes. Found a UTube thingy demonstrating the drill press. Posted in UK 2012. Woodsmith describes it as "a new wonder from Bosch"

I think special orders at Bunnings are a lottery.

If you find somebody who knows how it works it all goes fine. Make sure you go back to that person for the next special order.

A frustrating time is possible if you dont have the right person on the job.

One of the most frustrating things with Bunnings is trying to find a product that you want on the website. Unless you can describe it exactly it won't show up. Close enough is not good enough. Their search engine is always out of fuel. Also the product may be linked to another area and doesn't show up in the section you thought it should be in. Even their staff cannot easily find stuff.

One thing I find frustrating is locating a product I find on their website in their store.
What would be handy is if each product fine-line number was on the relevant page of their website - then one could at least call or take that to the store to see if they had it.

I had this problem with hook hinges. Could not find on Bunnings web site, but I was fortunate enough to be in a store and ask a staff member who not only knew what they were but where they were in the store.

Some days you can be lucky.
