vintage(paulcall) 6 inch jointer_Help_
Hi,
I recently bought the is vintage Paulcall 6 inch jointer, I have never bought any old machinery before and don't know much about this particular brand, the exact age of it or its value.
i would greatly appreciate if any one could be me any background information on this particular model.
I have taken the jointer apart and replaced the all bearings connected to the the cutter-head ,re-greased where needed set new blades in it, added two new pulleys, tuned the machine up.
The vintage jointer now works true and is great to use, I have done some research on the net about this paulcall jointer and have found very little information about it.Having looked at vintage 6 inch jointers on the net I have seen similar jointer with different brands that probably date my jointer around the late mid to 1930's or early 40's.
I also downloaded an old 1930's jointer instruction manual which gave me a lot of information about setting the jointer up but I still don't have any history info about my particular Paulcall jointer.
I have attached photos of my jointer, so if there is anyone out there in woodwork world that has an interest in vintage woodworking machinery has some knowledge that they can share about my vintage Paul 6inch jointer it would be great to hear from you.
Thanks
Mark

Hi Mark,
I can't help but I'm also interested in the Paulcall brand.
There's a damn good chance Matty has some knowledge about it.
I have a small Paulcall bandsaw , and a General jointer about your vintage.
There are pictures in my Album section.

Pictures 2 and 3 show a pull cord rigged from the guard return spring to somewhere on the infeed end of the machine. I am not sure what your intention there is?
The return spring should be permanently pretensioned so that the guard is always closed over the cutter head, and in contact with the fence face unless there is a piece of wood in the system, in which case the wood is against the fence on one side and the guard is against the otherside of the weed. The wood should push the guard away from the fence as it begins its pass over the cutter, but should replace it in ensuring that the cutters are not accessable to your hand.

hi Malb,
thanks for your response,I'am aware of how to use a jointer, guard spring tension and safety procedures, the original tension section is missing .The make shift section with plumbers string and spring I have made works well,I can quickly adjust the guard spring tension when I need to adjust the fence guide ,which will be often.
thanks
regards

Mystery machine....
Paul I gona have to let the team down on this one, I had a good long look on the net as well, plus many McPhersons Catalogs and came up with not a lot, not even a address in Australia where Paulcall manafactured, very puzzled about this tool maker as I recall a lot of tools being made by Paulcall, hand tools, clamp's machinery etc.
A look through a 1966 McPhersons catalog did reveal a small bandsaw branded Paulcall, leading me to think Mark that your planer is not as old as you think.
I will keep Looking....
Melbourne Matty.

I know this is an old thread, but I have a Paulcall 6" planner/jointer and a 12" bandsaw that my father can no longer use. I now have them working again after being idle for a few years. Keen for any info about Paulcall.
Dad purchased the bandsaw second hand. Not sure about the jointer but he had both for many years.
