Verandah ledger to double brick attachment
Hi,
I want to attach a verandah to the front of a double brick 1959 house. I want the verandah to slot in under the existing eaves fitted with soffit boards.
If I bolt the ledger right through the inner brick leaf, then the bolts will be visible from the interior. I understand the outer brick leaf is not structural and cant take any loads., but looking at some sources they show dyna bolts into the outer leaf doing this job! Others say it is okay if you are 5 brick layers from the top.
Does anyone have a recommendation on best attachment method?
I have attached photo and rough sketch. Any help gratefully received because I am going around in circles. For google searching, this is there a better term for the horizontal board attached to the house which carries the top end of the rafters other than "wall plate" or "ledger"?
