little johnny was asked by teacher, if I gave you two cats and another two cats followed by another two, how many cats do you have, seven was the reply.
Lets try it this way, if I gave you two apples and another two apples, followed by another two how many apples would you have, six came the reply.

Sounds a lot like my late brother John, when he went to school.
Teacher asked him to put the word "lovely" into a sentence. He replied "being pregnant is lovely" Teacher ask "how come" his reply "well sis came home and told Dad she was pregnant" Dad said "that's just bl..dy lovely"
