Driving Melbourne to Brisbane
Anyone here done this trip recently, just wondering what the roads are like what sort of time you should reasonably allow.
From google maps it looks about 20 hours non stop but I know that's not accounting for roadworks, caravans and trucks.
Cheers

I've done this trip many times. From Bris I go through Warwick, Goondiwindi and overnight in Dubbo. Then an early start to get into Melbourne at a reasonable hour. I wouldn't do it in one go, too far for safety. I plan for two 12 hr days. Sometimes it takes less, never more. In Moree there is a great fish and chip shop that does great burgers next to the Repco, and then there is Beverage on the outskirts of Melbourne, great place to stop for a cooling beverage.
Cheers

Your probably not going to go via Sydney, however I did Melbourne to Port Macquarie a month ago. 15 hours total, two (2) drivers and we stopped for fuel/food/etc for circa 30-40 minutes.
It was a good run to Sydney, then the usual chicanes through Sydney etc. The road to Newcastle was good, but busy, and then the road slows a bit to Port Macquarie.

We did that trip last September, went up the Hume, other than a little bit of thinking to get around Sydney all was well we stopped at Gosford first night then final stop next night.
Came home via the Newell, not ever again.
WHY Hume is safer, double all the way to Sydney then a lot of double after that,110 speed limit most of the way and you bypass all the towns.(if you want to)
Newell, single lane for a lot of the way and lots of towns to go through, saw some silly driving and a couple of close calls(not for us thank god)
We had not driven up there for maybe 25 years thinking that it would be a drag.
I don't mind driving and found it quite good, will do it again.
Did the sums,drive/fly and rent a car up there, found that unless you could get a real cheap flight the costs were about the same.
DRIVE.petrol, motel up and back (2) do your own thing having a car.
FLY,get to airport, airport parking, flight, car rental/transfers to accom and getting around when you are there.
Going next winter to miss the cold.
