Default Burnt Wood Smell on my Clock Gears

I just wanted to warn folks of my recent experience. I got some clock gears cut by a laser cutting service. They were burnt on the back but that is not too bad but the burnt wood smell was awful. I think the smell is there for good and I can't use them. I did not predict this problem so I thought I might warn others. I am starting a DIY CNC routing machine build and I will see where that leads.

I don't think I would be too stressed yet, Mike. The Laser cutting does burn the wood. That is how it does it's cutting, I believe. I think you will find that the smell will dissipate after a couple of weeks. Let us know how you get along. What type of wood were you using for your wheel blanks?

I used Hoop pine plywood. Thanks for the encouragement. I have had other laser cutting done without the smell so it might disappear.
