Hi All,

We recently had some work done by a builder and lets just say i have had to rip it out and do it again myself. The part i am up to is the window frames or window sills. We have a double brick home hence the nasty plaster walls with those god awful plaster frames / sills.

We had the plaster frame cladded with meranti and architrave over the top which looks alot better and isnt prone to cracking. The problem is the job this bloke did was terrible.

So after removing all the frames, architrave and plaster etc i need to cut some timber lengths (3.2m being the longest) down from 140mm to 125mm so essentially rip it lengthwise as these will be the base of the window frame to which i nail the architraves.. I do not have access to a table saw and was wondering if there is a safe way to do it using a circular saw? I am looking at getting one of these 185mm circular saws (Bosch PKS 1500 or the Dewalt DWE 560) that have a ripping guide and screw or nail the timber length down to some saw horses to support the timber while i cut.

Is this the best way to do this? Seeing as i don't have a ute I cant just take the timber down to the timber place and get it cut and i dont feel confident using a table saw as the lengths would not be able to be supported properly.
