    Default Mega engine crane 1ton

When I bought my mortiser I needed an engine crane to lift it off the pallet and put into position, I looked around and found there are quite a few cranes out there you can buy. They vary from $250 to $2000 for the 1 ton capacity. Although they look alike but if you look closely no need to say you will notice the differences.

I endup buying an engine crane by Mega, its about $1400, but ever since after I used the crane to put the mortiser in place it sat there folded, used again when I needed to put a heavy order onto a trailer and then that's it.

yesterday my dual saw arrived, the hiab driver told me it's about 1 ton.

I had to tell the driver to put the saw outside the garage first as the garage is in a mess, there is no way I could place the 4.5m x 1.2m beast into the garage without moving aside most of the machinery first.

Fortunately both the Robland combi and the bandsaw has wheel kits so it was not a major,

But moving the 1 ton dual saw proved to be a very time consuming task, I had to raise one end first with the crane and then drive the pallet mover underneath. Then lift the other end, put timber dowels underneath it, and then pull/push the pallet mover, here are some photos :

The job would be impossible if I didn't have the engine hoist, the cheaper model from Asia looks good financially but I have my doubt in cheap tools(been there, done that), therefore I've bought a medium priced crane by Mega. It has some feature that's unique to them and the rectangular box section is used properly( the look alike model use square section) and welding work is superb. Looking back at the purchase I am glad I bought the Mega, yes it's about 4-5 times the price of the lower cost models but I had enough experience with the cheap tools. If money was not a problem I would have bought the Danish AC hydraulic crane....
