Hi

not sure if there was a better place for this thread, but I couldn't see one. Please feel free to move it.

I'm in South East Queensland and have an older section of the house where there was a concrete slab put down (the rest of the house is raised) and hardwood placed onto the slab. There is a raised section of the slab (raised about 2 inches) just wide enough to take the 4x2's which are the bottom of the wall. The exterior is chamfer board, the interior some sort of compressed silica fibro.

The bottom of the wall seems to be a target for ants to make their way into the cavity and live there.

So I'm wondering if there are any standard practices for stopping this?

I'm considering pulling off the bottom row of chamfer board and putting something (like perhaps flashing?) in there to stop them. I'll probably not put the weatherboard back on but instead put on something like the fibro weatherboard that I can seal more tightly to the wall frame and posts. Is there anything that is used that can stop / slow them down?

Thanks
