    Hey - don't knock it - that's a mighty ship there!

My baby is now a dive site. Must visit her one day (HMNZS WAIKATO)

I also served on the ANZAC class (TE KAHA) for a couple of years, but it isn't the same thing, when you can start and run the gas turbine by mouse. Nothing beats punching sprays, particularly when standing in the cathedral. I'm guessing only Ashore knows what the hell I am talking about.

Time to go find another young cook......

At least I left before it became legal in the RNZN. Unfortunately I did not leave in time not to see females on front-line vessels. No insult intended (though many will take it that way), so please don't flame me on this one.

(btw- CERBERUS is a ship, as far as the navy is concerned)

    Stuart
There's a couple of others that I know of Seahorse and Simomatra and yes I know what you mean espically in the cook strait or the backstairs passage.

Been out 10 years now and still miss moments , note only moments
As you say all changed now, but its nice to remember the good times

In 1984-6 ( around then) we were in Auckland with one of yours , many drinks over a few nights , much bragging etc, navy swapped our flag and had NZ flying for two days no one noticed.

But revenge is sweet, As your vessel left appro walked out on our bridge with cardboard cut out Kiwi , never saw deckkie move so fast to check both sides of funnel.

Ah i'm getting all nostalgic , time for bed.

    A ships not a ship when it's a float.
Guess the WAIKATO is still a ship.

Then of course there is the good ship HMAS Leuwin(sp) and Jervis Bay.

    G'day,

The only time I buy brand new technology is when upgrading my Macs, but that is only after a lot of research into new models and saving a bundle of cash.

In my game of advertising / design I need to stay abreast of new stuff and keep up, inclusive of my software.

On the other side of the coin I'm behind the 8 ball. We still don't have a DVD player, instead and for the moment I hook up my 17" PB to the TV or watch them on my 23" ACD HD display.
I make things, I just take a long time.

I put off buying technology until I no longer want it. Works for me.

Most of the stuff that I really, really, really want has nothing to do with technology.
Like 100 hectares (minimum) of land to farm, a pair of Clydesdales, a house (paid off), kids, a coppice forest block, a "river that runs through"... and I know rampant consumerism is not going to get me that. So I am a miser and an investor, not a buyer of needless things.
But thats just me and if having every techo toy that comes along is your thing... more power to you.
Although - I would like the technology to print Aussie bank notes.
I won't touch the Services and boys who like boys topic - yes I will, no I won't, yes, no, damn it......#$%^&*
