LED Light

I don't know where to post this but as it concerns a table saw here will do. I am designing a new type of overhead guard/dust collection hood and some time ago decided it was going to have an LED light in it to help my old eyes. My idea was a single small light/lens/reflector unit along the lines of the small LED torches shining on the leading edge of the blade but there I am stumped, I simply can't find anything of the nature outside a torch. I did think of strip LED but I am not sure that this will give the correct light in the correct place. Has anyone got any suggestions for a suitable small LED light with reflector? I could as a last resort pull a torch apart but I am trying to avoid that.

Jaycar has a range of bare leds, bare leds with under die reflectors, high brightness leds, Cree leds with reflectors, Cree leds with collimators (dispersion angles from 10 degrees....)

Thanks for the replies. I never thought to look at Jaycar and it wouldn't help anyway as I haven't really got a clue as to the what and how of LED's, it just seems like a good idea.

Aldi had a couple of desk lamps recently with high power leds. They used the same bulbous head and flexi shaft on either a fixed base or a spring clip. (Single CREE LED I think 900Lumen, like the powerful flashlights)

It will have to be something compact and low voltage as I want it either inside or surface mounted to the guard. If it cops a bit of shrapnel off the blade 240V might not be a good idea. I think on most guards strip LED's down each side would work and not hinder sight of the blade but this is a bit different and I am not sure that type of LED will work due to the design. I will wander down to JayCar and have a look in the next day or so.

Brett, sorry if I am a bit obtuse! I want to put a low voltage LED inside a perspex overhead TS guard/dust collector hood. It could be surface mounted on the top and attach to the top of it shining through the perspex but inside would be what I would like.

I had the same thoughts and problems when I was thinking of put a light on my bandsaw. The conclusion I came to, after much testing, was to use a single led with a wide angle and very bright, why , I found with more then one light source you have shadows on both sides of the blade. and with the wide angle and brightness you have a good field of vision of what coming up on the cut line.
The electrical side was simple , I found a old dc plug pack and wired the led with a resistor in series, there are plenty of on line calculator to find the resistance value needed to match the plug pack and LED used. Then go to jaycar and get the bits.

Don't know if you have a big green shed close by but they have a an item called Nelson LED strip lights they are 300mm long 12volt dc pack of 4 if not try your local camping store

I have two attached to my drill press. They cop everything from wood dust to coolant when drilling metal to the occasional whack when some thing goes wrong.

They sill keep going.

Thanks fellas, yes, I have looked at those for another project. The only problem I have with using strip LED is that it may cast shadows and placing it in the hood so that it does not obscure my vision. I might give it a go and see what happens as the whole thing fell apart yesterday and now needs a rebuild. It was awesome while it was working though, sitting flat on the bench with no clearance under it there was full air flow through the hood. Putting a hood on a Hammer slider is a bit of a challenge though but I have come up with plan Z to overcome some of the problems.
