Timber Joists on concrete slab - raising floor level
OK , I have a concrete deck out the back of the house that is 4.5m x 11.5m and my extension is going onto it. it is basically a 100mm step down onto the concrete. The concrete is on piers and is 100mm thick and fine as a foundation.
I need to work out what floor joists material I will need to support the floor as the floor level needs to come up 100mm to match the existing house. I was going to put joists at 450mm centres & double joists around the outside perimeter of the deck & under all the internal walls also.
My intention was to use LVL's or hardwood lying flat on the concrete ( 140 x 70 ) and then sit red or blue tongue flooring on top of that. With packing the floor should be pretty much be spot on 100mm. ( I chose LVL'S as I have heaps of them stored )
And what would be the best way to secure the joists to the concrete ? Bolting? Chemset? Metal angles/Pryda? etc.
