Thanks Bob.
A bit of a google and i'm coming up with nothing though. I guess they may be completely outdated.

Try bootlace connectors - I believe you can get them on a shoestring budget.

They are called Bootlace ferrules, or Wire ferrules. And the crimping tool to use is the 4 jaw style.
Don't buy them from the local electrical wholesaler, you'll pay an arm and a leg... get them from digikey or similar http://www.digikey.com.au/product-se...=0&pageSize=25
Or there's always ebay.. if you are on a shoestring... http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_t...at=0&_from=R40

I have finally ordered a pair of Crimpers. I chose the second pair listed. The first pair was either badly described, or not big enough for what I wanted. Confusing. The third one (set) was from AG Wholesalers and had the descriptions for the jaws mixed up. No surprise here. The last set was too expensive for what I wanted to use in it. This listing also does not mention what the extra dies are for. It only mentions insulated terminals. It says a 6 pc set when it is 7 pcs. It has 4 extra dies and shows 5 extra dies.
Maybe the pair I have ordered will not be want I want? My original problem was that it is hard to determine exactly what you need, just from often poor photos. I would prefer to look at them in person.

I also like to see what I'm buying where tools are involved and even have a fiddle to see what they are really like. Although I admit to doing it a couple of times I don't like trying out the the real thing in a shopfront store and then buying the exact same thing on-line. This of course sucks me in and is probably why I ended up buying the fancy magnetic jaw set. Anyway I have almost forgotten the price
