Buying wood from Rockler

i bought some osage orange, brazilian cherry wood and some small turning blocks this past weekend. They are all coated with some type of thick wax.

My questions are, what is the easiest way to remove this, and why do they do it?

I think they do it to help prevent it from cracking. It is probably fairly wet wood when cut. I have scraped off what I could and turned of the rest. Don't know if that is the correct way of doing it.

Hi Mr. Lara,
I wood scrape 1 side as far as possible, so that you get to the wood, as then the wood will dry out.
Chap had a bit of Tiger Myrtle, completely covered in wax. Got out of Turning, sold it to a neighbor, & he left it for awhile, then decided to Turn it, & nearly Drowned, as it was that wet. That wood was over 7yrs. old.

I actually do remember you mentioning the town, but not the woodworkers inc. That is pretty cool.

Out of the people thati know, i seem to be the only one that has taken a stab at woodworking.
